At the Massachusetts DUI Defense Group, we handle all criminal and DUI matters and appear in every court in the Commonwealth. This means that whether you live in Worcester, Springfield or Framingham, we can help you. Our attorneys have in-depth knowledge of the courts in areas of the state to which they are assigned. This is part of our law firm's statewide strategy that provides legal services from a position of knowledge and strength.
Because each of our criminal lawyers is assigned to particular offices and specific courts, they know your court, its personnel and its procedures. Equally important, the judges, prosecutors and court staff know them and have come to respect our lawyers' bulldog determination as they work to protect our clients' rights.
Contact our Springfield or Worcester office today to learn how we can help you with any DUI or criminal charge. Schedule a free initial consultation by calling (800) 82-DEFENSE (1-800-823-3336).
The Massachusetts Trial Court System
There are four divisions of the Massachusetts trial court system, and our attorneys appear in all of them. They are:
- Boston Municipal Court: This is similar to a district court, handling Suffolk County criminal cases that do not require prison sentences. It also conducts show cause hearings for matters that may be charged in Suffolk County Superior Court. There are eight divisions — Brighton, Central, Charlestown, Dorchester, East Boston, Roxbury, South Boston and West Roxbury.
- Juvenile Court: There are 11 divisions handling delinquency matters and crimes involving youthful offenders.
- District Court: These courts deal with misdemeanors, crimes that carry penalties of less than five years in prison, 209A restraining orders and administrative appeals such as firearm license matters. The 62 district courts offer both jury and bench trials.
- Superior Court: This is where serious criminal cases and some bail reviews are heard.
In addition to appearing in these courts, our lawyers advocate for clients in a wide range of administrative hearings and agency matters, including:
- RMV hearings
- Warrant removal hearings
- Record sealing hearings
- Probation violation hearings
- Clerk magistrate hearings
How Does Local Knowledge Work?
As with the criminal court system, our attorneys attend these hearings every day and know how each court conducts its business. Local knowledge like this doesn't mean pulling strings. Instead, it means that we understand how things work locally. Because prosecutors, judges and hearing officers have discretion in much of what they do, knowing how things work locally and learning general background information about each venue and its personnel helps our clients on a day-to-day basis.
Act Quickly to Start Your Defense — That's What We Do
Our DUI and criminal defense strategists believe there's no time to waste. The most critical window for defense work may be the first few days following an arrest, or even before formal charges are filed by the district attorney's office. By getting to work immediately, we can often locate favorable defense evidence and witnesses and get a head start toward defeating your charges. Whatever court or hearing room we're in, we handle your issue as if it were our own, fighting at every stage for a positive outcome.
