About Springfield, Massachusetts
The city of Springfield is the third-largest city in Massachusetts and the fourth-largest in New England, with a population of 153,060 in 2010. Its history includes the invention of the game of basketball, the first gasoline-powered automobile and the development of vulcanized rubber. Located on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River, Springfield and the surrounding region are home to many college and university students.
